Pattie's boss Brad is looking for a way to create a vacancy in his staff, in order to hire a friend and so he directs his efforts on getting Pattie off of his staff. When he assigns her to represent Leland LeRoux, a deranged sociopathic recidivist, it adds to Pattie's stress and when Leland fixates on Pattie it nearly drives her mad.
