Description

At the time of Erik's birth, a dwarves life expectancy averaged around 10-12 years. Today there are expansive studies, and the gene causing dwarfism has itself been identified. but what is still missing is an acceptance of dwarves as viable, productive individuals. I think of my son as being so much like the Phoenix that consumed itself by fire and rose renewed from the aches. He is a true survivor, having risen to overcome each obstacle life has placed in his path. As his parent, I take small credit for his accomplishments. The stamina to accept what 'will be' just seemed to manifest itself in him. He is a remarkable human being.
Erik would marry in 2001. His wife Heather, also a dwarf would work with Erik in overcoming discrimination of not only him being a dwarf, but also African American. After receiving their college degrees, they found career positions elusive, but they worked wherever they could to support themselves and attended every Little People Convention to be part of an environment where they were totally accepted.
